What Size Trampoline Do I Need?

What size trampoline do I need? girl on trampoline

Ella Turner |

With so many shapes and sizes of trampolines available, deciding on the right one can seem like a tricky decision to navigate – but it doesn't have to be.

Keep reading as we break down our ultimate guide on how to decide the best size for you, alongside other important factors to consider, and how the team at Wicken Toys can help you find the perfect fit.

Trampoline guide by garden type

Before you decide what size trampoline you need, it's generally recommended to measure your available garden space first, making sure dimensions are accurate to ensure that you’re using your space optimally.

It’s also important to reduce any clutter and keep space clear around the trampoline for easy accessibility and safety. Most manufacturers recommend 1.5 to 2 metres of space around the trampoline to be safe.

Use our quick reference guide:

Size

Who is this best for?

Minimum garden size (Approximately)

8ft

  • Smaller budgets

  • Younger children

  • Tighter spaces

5m x 5m

10ft

  • A happy medium for most customers, making it the most popular size

6m x 6m

12ft

  • Older children who have extra space

7m x 7m

14ft+

  • Large gardens

  • Older children and adults

  • Generous budgets

8m x 8m

Please note that if you’re considering a rectangular trampoline, the minimum space required may vary slightly, so make sure you measure the length and width of your garden separately.

Important factors to consider

Your needs

If you’re deciding which trampoline size is best for your needs, considering your child and their requirements is always beneficial. A few things to consider include:

  • Number of children/users (and will they be bouncing together or one at a time)

  • Age of users

  • Size of users

Outlining the specifics can help make sure that your investment is a smart one.

These details can help inform your needs greatly. For example, for one small, young child, an 8ft trampoline is ideal. Whereas, for two kids, you may want to look at something slightly larger, such as 10ft or bigger.

Trampoline shape

Carefully selecting the trampoline shape can also improve perceived size. For example, rectangular trampolines will look and feel much larger than their round or oval counterparts.

This is because round and oval trampolines naturally have a higher concentration of bounce energy towards the centre of the trampoline. This means that rectangular trampolines have a much more even distribution and therefore more usable space.

Oval trampolines, however, often offer a beneficial middle ground, complementing narrow gardens in particular.
