Designed with the same thought as the Springfree trampolines. Springfree did not want to add a hard surface that a child could fall onto, so the step is flexi. It is also supplied with a lock so if you do not want children accessing the trampoline while you are not there you can close it off.

Whether you are looking at a go kart or an expensive climbing frame, you can get an idea from looking at a picture on a website but you can not beat actually seeing it and even giving it a shake to see how sturdy it is.
